Liege Bastogne Liege Challenge (cyclo sportive) weekend, Belgium
April 19 ~ 8:00 am - April 23 ~ 7:00 pm
Liege-Bastogne-Liege is one of just 5 ‘monument’ races in the pro calendar and the oldest of the ‘classics’. It’s known as La Doyenne and is contested in the hilly part of Belgium known as the Ardennes (which are technically a mountain range with heights of up to 699 m and even downhill ski runs!) The LBL Challenge is a continental cyclo (like a UK sportive) and gives you the chance to ride the iconic terrain the day before the pros.
We’ll travel to the stunning Belgian Ardennes on Thursday the 19th (via the tunnel) arriving in time for dinner.
Friday will be an easy day with a relaxed coffee ride.
Saturday will provide a choice of 3 routes taking in the spectacular roads of La Doyenne, with options of 75, 153 and 273 km.
Sunday will spent watching the pros race, by riding over to watch them tackle a couple of climbs before settling into our favourite bar in La Roche for lunch, Belgian beer, and a big screen TV!
Monday we’ll be heading home.
