Lands End to John O’Groats in under 65 hours!

June 24 ~ 6:00 am - June 26 ~ 11:00 pm

Lands End to John O’Groats in under 65 hours!
Traditionally, The Ride for Tina is an annual 3-day cycle ride, in memory of Tina Favis, in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.
Every September a bunch of locals cycle around 140 miles. Starting from a different point each year they head back to Salcombe to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in memory of our dear friend Tina Favis.
This year will see two Rides for Tina, with an additional ride from Lands End to John O’Groats in under 65 hours at the end of June.
Two members of Hammer Sport CC, Nick Life and Andrew Thompson will leave the Land’s End sign at 06:00 on Friday the 24th June to finish at the John O’Groats signpost before 23:00 on the evening of Sunday the 26th June. With a view to rider safety, their route is slightly longer than the shortest versions used for record attempts, and should even allow for an hour’s sleep on both the Friday and Saturday night! Nick and Andrew ride roughly 10,000 and 11,000 miles (respectively) each year, which has given them a good base for this challenge. To ensure success they’ve each increased their traditional autumn and winter training by roughly 15%. This will give them the extra base and stamina to build on as they head into the Spring. Their training volume won’t need to increase much from the current level, with regular, focused long rides of up to 300 km in March, April and May plus competing in a few events to ensure everything stays on track. From the start of February, more ‘intensity’ has been added to their training to lift top end and cruising speeds.
They’ll be supported from ‘End to End’ by a team of Lucy Thompson, Kevin Favis and Ian McMenamie. This will be a full-on job, using Ian’s brand new motorhome, which he has very generously offered as the perfect back-up vehicle. Nick and Andrew are extremely grateful.
Support along the route will be greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference to both the riders and back-up team!
We’ll post updates throughout the ride so you’ll be able to see how Nick and Andrew are doing and your donations will be an incredible boost to morale.
During her time at St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth, the staff gave amazing support to Tina, her friends and family, which is why we do all we can to say thank you. Thousands of people use the services of St. Luke’s Hospice every single year; they provide fantastic care not only for their patients, but also for their friends and families. Many of us have been touched by St Luke’s Hospice and the incredible help they’ve given to members of our own families.
The annual running costs of St Luke’s Hospice are in excess of £10 m, with £7 m coming from fundraisers. Everything we do will make a difference to this incredible facility. So please help us raise as much for St Luke’s Hospice as we can!!
Thanks very much in advance for all your help, support and donations.
Fingers crossed for good weather!
