La Thomas Voecklar, Sportive Race, Morzine, French Alps
August 22 ~ 8:00 am - August 28 ~ 10:00 pm
Invitation to this new & very exciting sportive race starting in Morzine. A choice of 2 ‘short’ routes of just 77 and 113 km, but with a staggering 2,900 and 4,300 m of climbing.
Both routes include the legendary climbs of the Col du Morillion, the Col du Joux Plan and Col d’Avoriaz to finish at the top of the mountain. The longer route also adds the climbs of the Col du l’Encrenez and the Col de la Ramaz. Safe to say there’s no flat sections!
With race day on Saturday the 25th, we’re leaving the UK on the 23rd with an overnight stop at Troyes, arriving in time for a loosen up ride before dinner. We’ll be at our base at La Grande Terche (St Jean d’Aulps) by 14:00 to allow a ride over the Col du l’Encrenez in the afternoon. Friday will be an easy day with just a gentle 30 km ride before preparing for the race.
After the race we’ll relax in the fantastic bar & restaurant opposite our base!
Sunday will be a choice of either a ride to Morgins in Switzerland for lunch (via the Col du Corbier and Chatel); or a relaxed ride for lunch on the shores of Lac Leman (Geneva) at Thonon.
On Monday, we’ll ride through Les Gets to Taninges before climbing the fantastic Col du Pierre Carre to Samoens for a relaxed lunch. Returning on the same roads for a relaxed evening before driving home on the Tuesday.
