Hammer Sportive – Salcombe, Devon

April 29, 2018

£29.99
Event Description

3 stunning routes in the South Hams – Can you handle the HAMMER?

135 km ‘Jack Hammer’ / 2,600 m climbing, 105 km ‘Steam Hammer’ / 1,900 m and 65 km ‘Trip Hammer’ / 1,065 m. With solo and team timing standards!

The most spectacular, challenging and rewarding early season sportive in the UK! Starting from the beautiful resort town of Salcombe, the Hammer takes in a stunning tour of the breathtaking South Hams. An incredible event in its own right, it is a perfect springboard to European hilly and mountain sportives as well as a logical stepping stone for UK events like the Dartmoor Classic.

With Spring being the one day ‘classics’ season, we’ve added a distinctly continental flavour to the feed stations, which in addition to the usual energy products, drinks, and fruit, will also offer Belgian Liege waffles. If they don’t keep you going, nothing will!

Entries are open to individuals and teams (everybody gets an idividual result and gold/silver/bronze standard, all team members will also receive the combined team time and combined team standard of gold/silver or bronze).

Teams

Teams

Teams of 4 or 5 (can be all male, all female or mixed, with 4 riders to count) are invited to enter the event at the website listed below using team identification titles as follows. The results will then show the solo and team performances and create a unique perspective!

On the day, teams just have to ride the course as quickly as possible in the same context as aiming for a ‘Gold’ time standard.

This is a very popular format on the continent and is signature of our events. We, at Hammer Sports, very much hope that you are able to join us for what will be a memorable day.

(You don’t need to be an officially registered team or club. If you fancy creating a team with 4 or 5 friends, then simply choose a name and fill in the relevant box within the entry questions).

Jack Hammer 135 km, 2600 m details

As with all our 2017 route, the Jack Hammer takes in the stunning and challenging scenery of the South Hams with spectacular coastal and moorland terrain. Compared to our 2013 events, the Jack Hammer is much faster, with the smaller lanes replaced with wider roads to allow you to maintain a higher average speed and better rhythm. Don’t be fooled into thinking this makes it any less of a challenge though! There are some very tough climbs and with 2,600 m of ascent, you will find this one of the most rewarding events in the UK!

Starting in Salcombe, the route heads to Kingsbridge, before following the dramatic coastline to Dartmouth. The section of road is a favourite of many top local riders and was used in the 2012 Tour of Britain! You’ll then zig zag you way across the South Hams in land to the beautiful Shipley Bridge on Dartmoor, before swinging South and then West to take in some of our best roads. The final leg brings you home on another section of the 2012 Tour of Britain route through Loddiswell, to Hope Cove before finishing just after Sandhills Road with its 5 hairpins – Salcombe answer to Alpe d’Huez!

The three feed stations will keep you fully fuelled to make the most of this great ride. It may ‘only’ be 135 km, but you’ll certinly know you’ve ridden it!

There is the option of a delicious post ride meal provided by Galley Girls and the menu will be online soon. Please let us know if you’d like info?

**Club/Team time standard (gold/silver/bronze) is for teams of 4 or 5, with the first 4 riders to count. The teams can be all male, female or mixed. Male and mixed teams and are classed as a male team for timing purposes. All female teams have their own category
