Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity
Raising money for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity

The Hammer Martello also incorporates the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Charity Challenge. This new format will guarantee charitable donations to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Their team performance will then determine how much is allocated by the RN and RM.

The event organised by Hammer Sports, (who’s membership includes several serving and veteran RN and RM personnel), will donate a percentage of ALL net Hammer Martello entry fees (160 and 110 km) to the RNRMC. The more riders that enter then the higher charitable donation. No additional fundraising is necessary, just turn up and enjoy the day.

Teams

Teams

Teams of 4 or 5 (can be all male, all female or mixed, with 4 riders to count) are invited to enter the event at the website listed below using team identification titles as follows. The results will then show the solo and team performances and create a unique perspective!

On the day, teams just have to ride the course as quickly as possible in the same context as aiming for a ‘Gold’ time standard.

This is a very popular format on the continent and is signature of our events. We, at Hammer Sports, very much hope that you are able to join us for what will be a memorable day.

(You don’t need to be an officially registered team or club. If you fancy creating a team with 4 or 5 friends, then simply choose a name and fill in the relevant box within the entry questions).

Martello 160 kms, 2200 m details

Incredible season finale starting from historic Okehampton, nestled below the northern peaks of Dartmoor.

The 160 km route gives the Martello a distinctly classic feel and with a route profile similar to the last one day monumment of the season – La Giro di Lombardia – we have created our very own race of the falling leaves!

The route heads North towards Bideford (via Hatherleight), onto the fast flowing roads found in the NW of the county, through spectular countryside with rolling hills where you’ll maintain a superb rhythm. The return journey to the SW via Holsworthy sticks to fast but quiet roads, allowing you to maintain speed whilst taking in the incredible views of both Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor on your way back via Cornwall.

Feed stations are at Torrington 45 km, Red Post Inn 90 km, and Lifton Farm Shop (130 km).

If this is slightly longer than your usual sportive please don’t be put off at breaking the 150 km barrier. The roads are very fast and this route is very achievable – it will put a big smile on your face! It’s also probable you’ll achieve your highest average speed for a SW sportive this season!

**Club/Team time standard (gold/silver/bronze) is for teams of 4 or 5, with the first 4 riders to count. The teams can be all male, all female, or mixed and are classed as a single category.
